In collaboration with Brinkworth, we were commissioned to design the new Defected Records HQ in London's Shoreditch. The label has been an institution in UK dance music since 1999, and we intended the building to embody their belief in global connectivity at a time when music consumption via streaming platforms is booming worldwide.

Spread over two levels; we designed the studios as a space that could facilitate collaborative working by day while also lending itself the perfect venue for live recordings and streaming events.

The upper level is a bright, open space with a light industrial feel, creating the perfect environment for working. The lower level is dedicated to facilitating events; it has a 'lounge' feel, with a nod to club culture achieved through comfortable seating and mood lighting. Displays of Defected memorabilia set the mood for visiting artists, and we used bold colours and textures to demarcate the open kitchen from the rest of the space. The whole area is primed for parties, panels, workshops, screenings and photoshoots. All are designed to translate the energy and life of the label into Defected's office and recording space.

The new space is now fit for purpose to help one of the most influential record labels in the UK launch their 'New Era', embracing music streaming without losing their commitment to physical events.

There’s a capacity for over 100 people in-person and millions more tuning in digitally, primed for parties, panels, workshops, screenings, and more. All designed to bring the energy and life of the label to Defected’s office and recording space.
